All this nice weather means that I feel guilty for not riding my bike. It also means that a set of three, hard rides right in a row are taking their toll on my old body.
Forced time away from the bike due to job-related travel means that the eventual return was a little harder than it usually is. But, the usual roads in Medina were a welcome path even with the cool, windy conditions.
With Saturday's sunshine and near perfect weather conditions, it was actually a joy to find a little mor challenge to the weather on Sunday morning. I enjoy a little adversity to the ride and the solitude it brings while on the bike.
With a brief break in some fall-related chores around the house, I was able to get some miles into my legs. The evening temperatures are dipping into the 40s now, so even with sunshine, the afternoons are still cool.
Erin and I were joined by her cousin, Ben at the 2011 Great Minnesota Get-Together. It was a wonderful day with mild weather and great experiences with all the classic rides.
The long shadows I cast on the pavement are a clear signal that the summer cycling season is nearly complete. Fall is a great time of year for cycling in Minnesota, but the accompanying short days make it a challenge to get after work rides complete.
I headed back to the old hometown to partake in the annual Tour de Prairie Lakes ride. I chose the 60 mile route that circled Lake Minnewaska and continued through Villard and Lowry before returning back to Glenwood for celebratory watermelon.
A great Sunday afternoon for a bike ride - although I continue to be tormented by my missing iPod. Getting James Taylor songs stuck in your head does NOT provide good motivation for pedaling hard.
